From information and sketches provided by Elliot, his own observations at the London Zoo, and skeletons, skins, and specimens in museums, Wolf produced extraordinarily lifelike illustrations of wild cats depicted in their natural habitats. Forty-three of his 160 designs were published in A monograph of the Felidae and are reproduced here from the original edition in the collection of the American Museum of Natural History.
